MTI develops and commercializes metamaterials that have unrivalled market potential.
The commercial applications of these metamaterials create value for a range of customer segments including niche markets in aviation, security and defence, energy and cleantech.
MTI’s strategic objective focuses on the advancement of a platform technology of optically selective, multi-layered, thin film nano-composites. The thin films can be applied on hard or soft (flexible) surfaces such as glass (windscreens, windows), silicon substrates (flexible and non-flexible solar cells, LEDs), polymer substrates (helmet visors, shields, goggles, eyewear), and any other transparent surface.
Unlike current nanotechnology-based optical solutions, which are very expensive and produced on small surface areas, MTI’s foundation technology and resulting products will be cheaper, more efficient, size adjustable and for the first time will be produced with sustainable quality on meter-scale surfaces.
The emerging global market for metamaterials includes the following classes:
- Artificial Dielectrics
- Negative Refraction Media
- Active Terahertz (THz) Materials
(i.e., metamaterials that respond magnetically to far-infrared or THz electromagnetic radiation) - Chiral Materials
- Plasmonic Metamaterials
- Photonic Crystals
- Superconducting Metamaterials
