As of March 27th, 2013 Lamda Guard Canada Inc. changed its name to Metamaterial Technologies Inc. (“MTI”). MTI is an optical metamaterials company that was incorporated to commercialize novel optical nanotechnology components. MTI has three wholly owned Canadian federally incorporated subsidiaries: Lamda Guard Inc., which focuses on laser filters, Lamda Lux Inc., which develops novel lighting applications and Lamda Solar Inc., which develops solar panels with enhanced efficiency
Lamda Guard has been awarded a second Engage grant from the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) to foster the development of a research partnership with the Thin Films and Photonics Research Group at the Université de Moncton for the design and fabrication of a novel optical thin film filter. The work focuses on the chemical synthesis of thin film layers for large scale fabrication of optical filters.
Lamda Guard secured a $332,000 project under the Business Development Program of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) to develop commercialize their transparent laser filtering goggles that utilize metamaterial technology against green lasers. Dr. George Palikaras, Lamda Guard’s CEO said that "We would like to thank the federal government for their continuing support and commitment to Lamda Guard’s research and product development activities. I would like to personally acknowledge the exceptional quality of ACOA’s staff."
Lamda Guard have been invited to present at NANOMETA 2013 – the 4th International Topical Meeting on Nanophotonics and Metamaterials which took place from the 3rd to the 6th of January at Seefeld, Austria. NANOMETA 2013 brings together the international Nanotechnology, Photonics and Materials research communities where most recent and challenging results and plans were discussed in the informal setting of a glorious mountaineering resort. Dr. Themos Kallos, Lamda Guard’s Chief Science Officer, presented the latest development in laser filtering technologies for aviation in a talk titled “Metamaterial Laser Filters for Aviation Safety and Security” during the special session Security Applications of Photonic Metamaterials.
